There you were, in test chamber 17.

Dear Santa:

I’ve finaly decided what I want for Christmas. WiFi. I want a reliable wireless router so I can get online with my laptop at home. My desktop isn’t great for my games and I hate having to have both in the same spot, swaping the cable back and forth, waiting up to a day for Comcast to stop being a bitch about dealing with the crossover. I want be get Team Fortress 2 and go get my ass kicked online. I want to finish at least one episode of Half Life 2 and log my hours. Hell, I want to be able to sit in my living room and play ORVS or drawmything while watching TV.

I’ve been good this year. None of the people I hit with my truck died, I stopped beating my cat, and I’ve yet to set fire to the office… so I think I deserve it.

it’s been a while

Yesterday I busted out my soldering iron for the first time in at least a couple years. The pager remote for the alarm in my truck had been screwing up a few dozen times a day, and now the case had split at the bottom so I figured there wouldn’t be any harm in cracking it open to take a look. Once I did I found that the reason the battery seemed to be loosing contact all the time wasn’t because the contacts were too loose or anything, but the spring had separated from the solder holding it to the board. Most of the time it was in contact, but if jostled around it would disconnect for a split second causing the remote to reset and sing for thirty seconds. A pretty simple fix since I had the right tool on hand. Then I cut a new groove for the key chain attachment peg so it wouldn’t push the case open anymore, reassembled it, and it’s good to go!

OK, so it’s technically held together by tape right now… but it’s still more useful than it was before. I managed to break off half of the snap connections while prying it all the way open. I might have to look for a replacement case online now, but I don’t need to take it back to that crappy shop that installed the thing years ago.

So with WordPress rolling out the a controll panel behind the scenes, I’ve been playing with my blog a bit and finally categorized my posts. Not extensibly, I mean I’ve don’t even have ten, but hey – it’s something at least. Now I’ve got a nice little tag cloud to the left to jump to various relatable posts of mine. Kinda sucks that the little link below each post goes to the global wordpress tag list fo some reason. The perils of a free blog I guess.

Today is the first day this winter that we got some nice thick fog… at least, its the first day I’ve been up early enough to drive in it. I like the fog. It’s very calm and I like the cold out. But I have a 25 minute drive on the freeways to get to work, and it screws with my eyes. So the calming effect is moot. Especially when you have drivers who don’t use their headlights in it at all.

But I’m glad winter finaly feels like it is here.
