companion keychains

Just put a dozen more on Etsy! (Click the pic below…)

Back in January of ‘08 I designed these little pendants based on the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal – arguably the greatest game ever. When I posted the initial idea on Flickr loads of my contacts loved it, so I offered to make extras for them on the cheap. I also made an official looking form to give out with it – basically to make the envelopes less likely to tear open in the mail – and to add to the fun. But after I posted that on Flickr, someone submitted it to Digg. About 60,000 views and over a hundred pleas later I was convinced that others “might” be interested as well… so I put out an email address and started making extras for the people who wanted to buy one too. All was well, and there was much rejoicing. Until some twit turned around and put one on eBay, trying to make a profit off my work. Needles to say I was not amused. Though after listing and selling another batch on there for substantially more than I had been, I was pretty satisfied. Eventually the interest died down and I ditched the overpriced eBay listings and took the leftovers to Etsy. About a week before Christmas, Geekology spotted them and helped me clear out the rest I had at the time. So for now I’m out… but I keep this page updated whenever I get more.

Please keep in mind that this is not a Valve product in any way, shape, or form… it’s an original design, merely based on the Weighted Companion Cube and the level challenge indicators in the game. This design is never actually seen in the game at all. I am in no way affiliated with Portal or Valve or the developers or anything like that (unfortunately). I only put this here because I’ve actually been asked if I work for Valve, so I don’t want to cause any confusion. All official products are available directly through the Valve Store.
